It’s the last Wine of the Week before Christmas, perfect time for a bottle of white that will stand up to the holidays! I won’t keep you guessing. David (our resident sommelier) has found us the Inspiración Valdemar Tempranillo Blanco, Spain 2009 as this week’s wine. This is one special wine. For those of you versed in varietals, you may know, Tempranillo are typically dark grapes. However, In Bodegas Valdemar’s vineyard there suddenly appeared white grapes among the dark ones. DNA testing (this is serious business people) proved that these grapes were actually albino versions of the Tempranillo grape! I guess Valdemar didn’t want to waste it, so he created the only Tempranillo Blanco on the market.
So you’re probably thinking, “great Alexis, so it is a crazy unique wine but that doesn’t mean it tastes all that special!” WRONG, according to David, “This is killer, killer stuff. Rich and fat. Reminds me of a very mild California Rhone varietal- not too intense.” And for about $25 dollars this wine will not only tickle your taste buds, but provide for some storytelling as well!
