It’s the first Wine of The Week in 2011! And of course I am getting this post up a little late… apologies, our sommelier was a little behind on getting me the title (poor David is sick!) and I spent yesterday exhausted. I promise: this isn’t signs of what’s to come!
So, let’s get down to buisness.
This wine we are looking at comes from Chateau Rayas, but unlike its older sibling the Châteauneuf-du-Pape this one is less known. I am going to forewarn you, there’s a catch. First the wine: it is the Chateau Rayas “La Pialade” Cotes du Rhone. Notice I didn’t offer a vintage. That’s the catch. According to David he loved the 2003, 2005, 2006 and the current 2007. So whatever you have access to, go for it! This is a great everyday light to medium bodied red. Great with an easy dinner. Just don’t buy the 2004… our sommelier was not a fan. I guess the lesson here (and fitting for the new year!), is “oh what a difference a year makes!”
