When I first saw this bottle I had my doubts. Somehow it read as big and tawdry. But, I’ve learned to trust our sommelier David- at least when it comes to wine! This week’s suggestion is the Villa Sparina,Piedmonte, Italy, 2009. It retails on K&L wines for around $16, which means even if David were wrong my wallet wouldn’t be irreparably damaged.
The wine is a yellowy hue, flavored with lemon and peach. The nose is perfumed with floral notes that are quite welcoming. In fact, David goes so far as to say, “there’s something unexpectedly sophisticated about this wine that draws you in.” Perfect for starting off an evening of possibilities!
