Wine Of The Week (35)

It has happened!  Our sommelier David Foss has fallen in love.  Okay, maybe love is still too strong a word—- but he has picked out his current favorite winemaker!  The wine to do him in? The 2000 Lopez de Heredia “Viña Tondonia” Gran Reserva Rosado Rioja. This rosé is unique, unlike the other girls errr…. I mean bottles, this rosé has been allowed to age.  Morphing into “A Big, Brash, Loud, Outspoken woman in the room.  She’s smart, and can kick your butt.” Wow, after read this as the editor and co-author of the post I feel like I have much greater insight into David… errr, this wine.

As I alluded to before, Rosés are trypically enjoyed very young.  However, the Lopez de Heredia have a reputation of holding onto their wine much longer, making sure that the flavor has truly reached its peek.  Speaking of, this one has touches of almonds, blood oranges, toast.  As David says “this is a crazy and really really fun wine!”  You can pick up a bottle for under $25.
