Hot Weather Leather

DISCLAIMER:  What I am about to write may infuriate some of you.  Especially those of you currently living in sweltering hot conditions.  But remember, fashion is not for the faint of heart!

There are certain fabrics that just seem seasonal.  For instance you don’t see much linen in fall/winter nor do you see much wool in spring/summer.

Leather (and faux) tends to fall into the category of fall/winter.  But as any innovator knows, sometimes you’ve got to break the rules.  And we are going to begin by wearing leather in the summer.

Don’t get me wrong- there are some leather examples that easily meld with your summer wardrobe-

Dolce Vita "Jade Wedge Heel" ($179)

P.S.  I am totally in love and want a pair of these shoes—- in any of the available colors!

7 Hills "Sretch Weave Belt" (Sale $15.99)

Foley + Corinna "Woven Circle Tote" ($495)

& About a million different wrist ornamentations (Do you like that?  Yeah, I am pretty clever):

La Mer "Soho Wrap Watch in Black/Gold" ($88)

But, I am not simply referring to the slew of leather accessories.  I am talking about true apparel.

Things like these:

 Where To Shop:

  • Free People “Vegan Leather Shorts” ($98)
  • Alice+Olivia “Box Pleat Leather Skirt” ($396)
  • French Connection “Laser Cut Leather Shift Dress” (Sale $258.59)
  • Superfine “Leather Triangle Jeans” (Sale $332),
  • Kaelen “Tamela Leather Tunic” (Sale $237.50)

What do you think?

Would/Do you wear leather (or faux) apparel in the summer?

And if the answer is yes— how do you do it?  (Wait— don’t answer that last one!  Instead, send me a photo so that I can feature you in this week’s NoH Does!!

  1. I love the bag, watch, and triangle jeans. I’d definitely sport any of those in the summer. Nice selection, Alexis! I have a leather bag that I carry year round.

  2. I don’t think I could handle wearing leather or faux leather in the summer. It’s just too hot down here, and I really like breathable fabrics for that time of year. I think the only way I’d wear it is via accessories, which you did such a lovely job outlining some gorgeous ones!

  3. The BELT and the Hand BAG are a definite YES…… for me!

  4. Haha, this post totally cracks me up! I have had buyers from Vegas recoil at my suede bags–they couldn’t think of a worse curse than leather in that sun, but I think it’s playful and fun and if you wore it during a semi-cool summer evening it could be quite sexy. For the time being, I’m content to schlep my leather bag and call it a day.

  5. Well, it is 112 degrees here, but I have to say I love the accessories and I would definitely wear that Tamela Leather Tunic!

  6. I’m not a fan of leather but the shoes are really cute!!

  7. Cute stuff! I’ll sport the leather. I always run into a foot problem though, my feet are wiiiiide. Any suggestions on cute wide shoes? Does that exist?

  8. I just love those DV wedges!

  9. I love all of the leather accessories! I really love the black mini skirt and short shorts!

  10. I’m thinking the pleated to skirt. So hot. Must have….in faux, bc my budget will never let me have the real thing!

  11. umm… there is no way I would wear leather clothes out here in the summer. It has been over 100 degrees here, AND we’ve had 35% humidity! I think I would suffocate! : (

  12. Cool! I have just discovered your blog in Full Time Fabulous Community, in Facebook. Now I follow you here. Kisses,

  13. I’m ALL over hot weather leather – i find it to be a wardrobe staple, although i think faux is in my current budget :-(

umm… you NEED those Dolce Vita wedges, those are buttery perfection! and I think I need that watch…

  14. I definitely think you could get away with leather in the summer in the form of shorts or a skirt. I don’t think I could do a full dress or a tunic, and pants might be pushing it a bit – can you imagine trying to get a pair of leather pants off in 100+ degree heat?! Yuck.

The DV wedges you MUST buy so I can drool over them. Love those! That F+C bag is a great pick too.

  15. It’s not that hot over here at the West Coat (yet), but I never really was leather clothing fan to begin with…..however, I do love the tunic and if it finds it’s way to my closet somehow it just might change my mind….

  16. Vegan leather shorts? Yes, please!

  17. Yea I can only do accessories here, even in short or skirt form here I would die
