I’ve always had a fascination of what it is like to grow up in an extremely famous family— no, scratch that, legendary family (as in the Kardashians are not making the cut).  I am talking about the likes of the Barrymore family.  I mean could you imagine what it was like growing up as Drew Barrymore?  The pressure of living in that fish bowl resulted in a substance abuse problem that took many years to overcome (side note— she has made a complete 180* since then and seems to have her stuff together these days!).

Even if it isn’t an illustrious family tree, but a single ancestor who’s had a major impact on culture—how do you live up to the expectations?  One example of this is Elvis Presley’s granddaughter, Riley Keough.  Despite being only 22 she already has a successful modeling career and a budding acting one as well.  At 14 years old she walked the Dolce &  Gabbana runway and hasn’t stopped since.

And while Riley has embraced her royal heritage—

—she is absolutely carving her own path as well!

What do you think of these photos of Riley Keough?  Is it possible for the offspring of a famous individual to navigate the perks and pitfalls of their identity?  Is the pressure on these individuals to succeed too high?

  1. While I’m sure it doesn’t hurt to have a famous relative to push your career along – it still requires them to be skilled and determined to make their career succeed! (take Dree Hemingway for example) It’d be must easier to just live off the fame and fortune of their relatives than to try and carve their own path. I say bravo to them! :-)

  2. I also can’t get over how versatile her look is! She is truly a different person in each picture (and the Miss Dior ad really shows off her Presley blood!)

  3. Lord she is gorgeous but wow she looks a lot like her mom, who also resembled her dad!! I hope she can make it. Lisa Marie seems fairly well-grounded despite growing up with a famous dad and famous mother. I hope she remains balanced and doesn’t go over the edge.

  4. What a beautiful young lady. You can definitely see the resemblance, but I love that she’s striking out on her own. I think you have to become your own person if you want to remain remotely sane when you have all of that “royal” baggage to carry around.

  5. I love the fact that she has done all of this on her own without hanging on to the ‘royalty’ She is extremely beautiful and versatile! I think this little lady is going to go very very far!

  6. She is gorgeous and really seems to know how to work with the camera. I do think it must be incredibly difficult to navigate such a heritage. It seems difficult for anyone to navigate their familial and cultural heritage, but to have to do it in the public eye seems terribly invasive and particularly challenging. I wish her well.

  7. She is absolutely gorgeous and she reminds me so much of Priscilla especially in the first photo.

I think there must be a certain pressure being brought up in a famous family, but I think to be truly successful and happy everybody needs to find their own identity and prove themselves. Too many rich and famous offsprings (most of them without talent or life skills) ride on the coattails of their family name and abuse it to no end. It’s nice to see the ones who decide to do it their way and on their own merits.

  8. Happymother says:

She is very beautiful, reminds me in the first picture of her mum.
You are grown up in a very famous family my dear, remember in Germany, the whole city was on their feet!!!

  9. Had never heard of her before. I’m sure she has amazing connections but she seems to be doing well making her own path!

  10. Mmmmmmm….I love how Miss Dior Cherie smells! And 14? Wow!

  11. Gosh she’s beautiful, much prettier than her mother. I don’t know what it would be like to grow up in one of those families, but the fact that she’s avoided being in a reality TV show says a lot about her.

  12. how in the world did i not know drew barrymore was apart of legendary family?

  13. I’ve always thought Riley was just beautiful and I think she’s turned out so well because she’s had good parenting. I know her mom is controversial and I could be way off base, but I always get the sense that there’s something that works between them. Love this post Alexis!

  14. She is beautiful – those good genes show don’t they!
