The Lady-Like 70s

One trend I am loving for this transitional period (and also for fall!) is the lady like 1970s.  My mother lived for this attire… she is lucky I don’t have any photos of her in the 70s or else I would plaster them all over NoH.  So instead you’ll have to settle for my second choice of evocative images: The Mary Tyler Moore Show.  Lady-like blouses,  tweed jackets,  midi-dresses,  and wide leg trousers—all in saturated colors and beautiful patterns,  characterized the show’s wardrobe.

(Ahhhh,  now you are with me!)

Here are some of my favorite examples of the season:

Where To Shop:

  • Tucker “Pleated Skirt” ($460),
  • J.Crew “Vintage Tweed Jacket” ($198),
  • Robert Rodriguez “Wide-Leg Pleated Pants” ($315),
  • Banana Republic “Ruffled Dot Blouse” ($79.50),
  • ASOS “Short Sleeve High Neck Pleated Dress” ($82.33),

What do you think of this trend?  Do you have any favorite pieces?

Yes!  This is the topic for this week’s NoH Does!  It will be the last one for a bit,  so if you are looking to partake,  now is your chance!  As always,  all you have to do is email me ( photos of you wearing this trend,  then come back Saturday to see the featured participants.  Looking forward to seeing your looks…

  1. I do love the 70s trend, its so much fun. High waist flairs and pussy-bow blouses, yes please! I might try and get in a pic for the last noh does! :)

  2. Knee length pleats and tailored pants, I LOVE these trends. Have a wonderful week, Alexis! xo

  3. I love this style!! The jackets, pants and pretty little details.

  4. Love your post Alexis! My mom dressed SO Mary Tyler Moore, this is really a nostalgic read for me. I like the look now, but like all redux trends, in small doses. I think what makes it fresh are the newer neutrals. I’m less attracted to print at the moment, maybe because I work with so much of it in my line, lol. I’m sure I’ll wake up and snap out of this phase soon!

  5. I just love that hair do…

  6. I love the 70s! The pleated dress is absolutely my favorite item on the page.

  7. Classics. Love them! Some things just never go out of style. Mary Tyler Moore is the perfect example.

  8. Happymother says:

I love this trend too! I like the blouse and the dresses of this look. I remember my mother wearing those trend and I would have loved seeing your mum in the 70s look.

  9. My fav. is the tweed jacket and the wide legged pants.

  10. I’m totally into this look and I LOVE that skirt!

  11. I agree and love the 70s as well. I’m a fan of the silhouettes in brighter colours lately, :)

  12. The 70s is my personal fav decade. All my friends at home say I should have been born in the 70s. There’s just something about femininity and class in the 70s.

  13. I absolutely LOVE that tweed jacket! The skirt is pretty awesome too. I think I like 70’s fashion…

  14. I looooove that the 70’s look has been in all the fall trend watching! You picked fantastic pieces.

  15. I love the 70’s trend. I watch Mary every night before bed (yes, someone just got Comedy Gold on satellite)and I always catch myself admiring her outfits.

  16. I haven’t always been a fan of the 70’s & was very hesitant to see how it would translate for summer, but admittedly I loved it. SO. I’m not yet sure how I feel about Fall, I’ll have to wait & see how its modernized.
But I do LOVE that Tucker skirt.

  17. I love that former trends keep coming back!

  18. I grew up in the 70’s, and I have a hard time liking the look enough to wear it, though I do appreciate the higher end versions of the look. I do have an amazing fake fur coat from the 70’s, and once upon a time I had a beautiful camel color wool coat from the 70’s. But I don’t have much in the way of the rest of the look. I like the funky knee-high boots and fur vest version of the look best I think. But I’m still looking forward to the submissions!

  19. I was seriously just telling my mom that I wish she would have kept all her clothes from the seventies, because I would love to wear them now.

  20. Hey- great theme.. where can I mail you the piccys?
