Sizzling September

I’ve spent a lot of time talking about how excited I am about fall fashion.  What I failed to mention was,  it is still truly summer outside. Mid-80*s summer.  Needless to say,  I have been forced to come up with some modified autumn looks.  Besides,  if I were to run around in a true fall coat—well,  I would be a glistening mess (because girls don’t sweat, they glisten…).

And something tells me I am not the only one suffering from these games played by Mother Nature.

Fortunately, there is a solution.  Clothing that gives a nod to fall,  while still remaining true to the heat.  Genius.  I know.

And to take it a step further,  I have assembled a few street-style-looks from Milan Fashion Week that solve this seasonal conundrum.  (I would say When in Rome— but,  these girls are in Milan!)

The lessons:

  • Add a blazer to summer favorites.
  • Embrace autumn hues and textures.
  • Lose the tights—bare your legs!
  • Keep blouses lightweight, but add layers.

What do you think?  Do you have a favorite?  How do you find a balance between the temps and the seasons?

  1. These are all great pictures. I have to say that I love the shoes in the 2nd & 3rd photos. I’m such a tights fan, I won’t wear shorts or short dresses with out them!

  2. I love the look on top. It looks rather school-girlish which gives it a fun “fall” back to school feel without being too blasted hot. Genius!

  3. those mary janes and that short suit… swooooooonnn….

  4. Definitely having this problem as well, since it’s way warmer than it usually is during Fall. My go-to item is the blazer as well. Very versatile and perfect for layering!

  5. Oh, I love the top ensemble. So cute. Yes, its still in the 100’s here in the desert. So that would be very cute to wear.

  6. You have hit the main news of fall on the head Alexis, its’ the weather! I can’t remember if it’s like this every fall or just this one, but it has me seriously re-thinking what I buy for summer/fall since it all meshes together.

  7. I am so itching to get my fall clothes shopping on but just looking at sweaters makes me glisten :-) I love that mustard colored blazer, which I’ve seen pop up a few times. I think it’s going to be a big color for fall.

  8. They are so chic!

  9. Oh my goodness…. the orange and red is to die for :)

  10. All three looks are super cute and I can’t decide between #1 and #2… them both.

  11. All great looks – I especially like the 2nd one. I always “dress cool” since I am a fall/winter person who doesn’t take heat well. Then I can always add a layer!

  12. Why is everyone so much chicer in Milan? It’s not fair.

I changed three times today, and only one of those was for the gym. First I was too cold for a skirt so I changed to jeans, got too warm, and changed back to the same skirt I had on in the morning. Sigh. It’s actually cooler this year then it is normally though. Normally it’s in the 90’s in September, then it rains and gets all crazy in October.

  13. all amazing looks!! The spicy autumn hues are going to get me this season! I love the mustard blazer with the burnt red!

  14. The orange blazer. That is the one thing I want in my wardrobe right now that I don’t have.

  15. I love those Tom Ford sunglasses in the first pic… so cool. My favorite look is definitely the middle one. I just love everything about it.

  16. I’m a huge advocate for the shorter hemline plus fall wear! So great to share this.

  17. we have similar temperatures here…but it’s to cool for me to wear shorts or skirts without tights, especially during the night!! and the blazer+shorts combo looks so cool!
