Chanel Spring 2013 Couture Collection

Chanel Spring 2013 Couture Collection

Springtime and greenery continue to reign supreme at the Spring Couture runway shows.  For the Chanel Spring 2013 Couture Collection, designer Karl Lagerfeld created an enchanted forest for his guests and models to wonder through.  There was a rich romanticism in the air that translated to the garments.

popupChanel Spring 2013 Couture Collection 1I love how the tweeds, while a Chanel staple item, feel fresh and new- yet still classic!  It is this balance that makes them accessible across generations.

Chanel Spring 2013 Couture Collection 2One element that appears throughout the Chanel Spring 2013 Couture Collection is the emphasis on shoulders.  Without resorting to the shoulder pads of fashion eras gone by, Herr Lagerfeld creates strong shoulder looks in a variety of ways.  Sometimes exposed and bare, while other times accentuated with a fabric band, this detail is both subtle and elegant.

Chanel Spring 2013 Couture Collection 3Another theme found throughout was the iridescent quality to the pieces.  While much of the palette is black and white (a classic combination that has gained popularity), the pieces have a shimmering quality woven into them.  The sparkle is just enough to make the garments eye catching and intriguing, but not flashy.

Clearly my love for Chanel continues on with this Couture Collections.  But tell me, does yours?  What’s your favorite piece from my selections above?

  1. Okay, the headpieces totally distracted me. At first I noticed the outfits until I fixated on the head pieces and then it was all I could look at =) hehe

  2. I think I like the 4th picture down… but they are all beautiful!

  3. Those last two dresses are stunning, they really translate into the whimsical spring theme.

  4. You had me at enchanted forest. Love this. No really. I’m not kidding. These are fab! My fave. . .oh geez. . .if I had to pick one. . .it would be the first outfit pictured. For me its a little bit wild, and a little bit subdued. I could totally wear that, I’d be completely in my element.

  5. How funny, I was just viewing this in my inbox. Will share and link this online. I really adore the magical details, lace is my weakness! Happy weekend! x/M

  6. I actually love the white tweed jacket at the end of the first row. After reading Ms. Toni’s post from the other day, she mentioned that white and black being big for 2013 and I see that here with Chanel.

  7. I always love Chanel and I’m sure so many of those pieces would look even more amazing in person. I guess I’m leaning toward that long black dress–reminds me of Downton Abbey (in a good way). Lovely post!

  8. Love that purple dress! So romantic and pretty.

  9. THE-LOUDMOUTH says:

Um… so awesome that he created an enchanted forest! Too cool. But with that and the costume-esque clothing, it sounds like the display was more of a theme park than a runway. I mean, it’s all gorgeous, but I probably wouldn’t wear any of it IRL. It’d be awesome to see in person, though!

  10. Wow, what an incredible ‘set’ for the show!! Just magical, I love it. And those gowns, double-wow!

  11. I am in love with the peep-toe boot/stocking thingys. The lace ones OMG!!
