Dries Van Noten continues to win my love and affection with designs that are unexpectedly charming, fresh and intriguing. For his Spring 2013 Collection, Van Noten played with unexpected combinations in pattern, texture and opacity. The Dries Van Noten Fall 2013 Collection continues this theme with elements of feathers, fringe, floral, stripes and sheer elements- just to name a few!
Despite the details and embellishments, these pieces didn’t feel overly dolled-up and sweet. Instead there was a strength to the models. I suspect this had a lot to do with the elongated silhouettes and chunky knits. And the suit, while in a floral patterned was offset by a relaxed fit and striped blouse.
I really loved Van Noten’s use of feathers! They did not feel cheap or chintzy. Instead elegance was met with playfulness. Often feathers are seen along the hemline of a garment, but here Van Noten used them on the blouse, at the hip and all over the gown creating unexpected visual interest. I am especially fond of the final black gown, which has an ease about it despite the dramatic detailing.
So now that I have revealed my love for the Dries Van Noten Fall 2013 Collection, I am giving the floor to you! What do you think of the feathers and other elements? Are they too much or just far enough?
