Miss Dior Spring 2013 Ad Campaign

I am sucker for black and white (I mean did you see my post on my favorite black & white dresses?!).  And that love extends to photography.  And right now I am loving the Miss Dior Spring 2013 Ad Campaign featuring Jennifer Lawrence and photographed by Willy Vanderperre.

I’ve mentioned it many, many times, but often I feel very frustrated when I see actors being cast in the role of model.  But I have to admit— when I first saw this image I didn’t realize that it was Jennifer Lawrence!  The look is dramatic and sumptuous, but simultaneously subtle and quiet.  I found it beautiful, but also powerful.

Miss Dior Spring 2013 Ad Campaign

Miss Dior has a history of featuring young actresses who possess a certain poise about them (e.g. Natalie Portman).  And Ms. Lawrence carries that torch perfectly.  But there is a maturity in these designs that I find very attractive and appropriate for the pairing of designer Raf Simons and Jennifer Lawrence.  Independently and together both have a subdued demeanor that is both effortless and unforced.

What do you think of this Miss Dior Spring 2013 Ad Campaign?  Are you a fan of Jennifer Lawrence?  How about the pairing with Raf Simons?  Share your thoughts!

  1. I agree, I didn’t know it was her until I’ve read your entry in full. And I also agree that Miss Dior selects their actresses carefully. <3 Also, I absolutely love their eyeliners. Not exactly under the Miss Dior line but still! Hehehe.

  2. I saw this and fell in love. It also took me a moment to realize it was her. She is such a wonderful person to listen to and look at. She’s awkward, funny, beautiful and intelligent. She’s the kind of girl that you want to be friends with, and I think the pairing worked wonderfully. I don’t know if this photo would have worked if it was in color, though.

  3. That is a superb photograph. Love it!!

  4. I really adore Jennifer Lawrence’s style. She looks stunning, and I like the simplicity in the campaign image.

  5. I didn’t recognize her at first either. I love black and white photography – it makes so much stronger a statement. It looks like a beautiful campaign!

  6. Oh wow, that doesn’t look like Miss Lawrence at all. I adore her too.. Beautiful image.

And black and white photography is AWESOME!

  7. I love her ad so much–it looks straight out of a vintage Dior campagin…only better. So glad to see her, wasn’t such a huge fan of the Mila ads. As for Raf, I think I will need to see more but he’s so talented I’m looking forward to it!

  8. Gorgeous photo of her – first I didn’t know who it was. She looks so natural and right in any kind of mood from athletic to this Audrey Hepburn-esque look

  9. Love Jennifer Laurence, love Dior, love the image!

  10. Oh Alexis I really didn’t find this photo striking but I share your love of black and white. I recently watched Silver Lining the movie. She is a good actress. It was a pretty good movie with HOT Bradley Cooper.

  11. I know I’m kind of echoing what others have said but, really I didn’t notice it was her until you mentioned it in the post. I know my girlfriend always prefers her photo taken in black and white as she thinks it’s more flattering, you gotta love a black and white photo though.

  12. Wow! That’s so so brilliant! So true, even I didn’t realize its Jennifer Lawrence in the first look!!! :)
