Last Minute Packing For A Tropical Getaway

So I am going to cut off my coverage of New York Fashion Week a bit earlier than usual- why? Well because we are escaping to Bali!  One of the pleasure to living in South East Asia are the adventures we get to go on (remember our trip to Thailand back in August?).  Of course there is still a lot to do before we depart and I thought I would share some of the preparation with you.  Besides, it’s difficult to think Fall/Winter when I am getting ready for the beach!

On my list of things left to do is a run to the mall (have I mentioned how Singapore has about a million malls?  There is truly a shopping culture—plus the air conditioning is alluring).  Of course there are some final touches that need to be added to my suitcase.

What’s on my last minute packing list for my tropical getaway?  I thought you’d never ask…

OB-bali

Swimwear.  Okay, maybe I don’t technically need another suit, but with pools and oceans aplenty I think it may be smart to pick up a new one!  I love the combination of the L*Space Estella Bikini Bottoms and the L*Space Chloe Wrap Bikini Top, both in Pistachio.  The wrap effect on the top seems like it would offer some security and I like the peek-a-boo detail of the bottoms.

A Novel.  Lately my reading list has been dominated by non-fiction, so I think this vacation I could use a little mind candy.  The Hive: A Novel by Gill Hornby was recommended to me as a fun/easy read and I am hoping to pick it up at the bookstore before we head out.  (Is the idea of lounging around reading a novel while caring for a toddler wishful thinking?)

Sunblock.  I am not advocating just any old sunblock here, because frankly a lot of the products on the market can do as much (more?) harm has they claim to prevent.  I recommend a non-chemical, mineral sunblock.  We use  Laneige Sun Block Sensitive, spf 30, which is a Korean brand widely available in Singapore.  It is appropriate for both face and body and is ideal for sensitive skin.

Extra Memory Card.  This is really a given, because I promise: the moment I travel without an extra card my current one will inevitably run out of memory.  Plus, Bali is supposed to be breathtaking and I don’t want to miss any of it!  I am currently using SanDisk Ultra SDHC Class 10 Flash Memory Card – no complaints!

A Journal.  I know you were wondering what that final item was.  I always like to travel with a journal- it’s a great way to record the memories and feelings from the experience.  But it is also ideal for capturing brilliance, because often when you get away and take the pressure off, that is when the best ideas strike.  This Anthropologie Coptic Stitch Journal fits the bill perfectly!

Now I need your help- is there anything you think I can’t possibly live without and need to add to my last minute packing list? Let me know below!

  1. Yea, no biggie, just taking a trip to Bali…goodness! So jelly. But I know you’ll have an amazing time! Let me know if you get a chance to actually read the book. I’m trying to get back into the swing of things with my reading and it might even be a good idea to read to my little one at night. Good idea about the journal. Never thought to bring one with me since all I do is take pictures, but it would be nice to jot down some notes and memories. Have a great Tuesday Alexis Grace!

And a trip to the mall sounds like heaven at this point, I feel like I don’t even have time to shop at the mall these days. Have fun Alexis and definitely take some pics!

  6. To read book: is a kid’s club there? – will be babysitters anyway and that book will get read. My friend always says vacations with kids are working holidays – haha That bikini is so cool, can’t wait to see your photos, I never got to Bali

  7. You can read when she naps! A big hat, so that you have enough shade to read that book….but with all the other visual stimuli that Bali offers, I don’t know if you’ll want to read. Let me know how the book is. I can’t wait to see your pictures! And you have to show us the little one in he bathing suit! Pretty please? Happy Valentine’s Day to you and Lukus. :)

  14. The extra memory card is so necessary. I’m so jelly of you guys going to Bali! When Ari and I went to Singapore last year we were thinking about adding on either Thailand or Bali to our trip. We ended up doing Thailand, which was great, but I still want to go to Bali. Have fun, luv.
