Making You Blush

It has been a bit since I wrote a fashion-based post, which is crazy considering that this a primarily fashion blog.  Crazy.  Completely crazy.

I can’t let this go on for another minute.  So today I will give you fashion.

More specifically, I will give you one of my favorite fall/winter colors: blush.  That’s right, while everyone else is talking about jewel tones I am talking about a soft blush hue.  What can I say?  I like to go against the trend.

For me, this color is not only beautiful, but it is also unexpected.  Go to a holiday party and everyone else is wearing dramatic colors, suddenly the slightly quieter blush is the hue that’s turning heads.  Step up the sophistication by pairing your blush pieces with a metallic and/or black elements.

Not convinced that blush is right for you?  Maybe these picks will help:

A Short Story (Part 2)

Back in April I announced my love for short shorts (A Short Story).  And I maintain that support even now in November.   Honestly, my love may have only grown deeper.

What makes them even better now that it is cold out?  No tan required.  After all, just like a winter skirt, winter shorts are best worn with a pair of tights.  In fact, if you are unsure of how to wear shorts during the cooler temps, skirts are the perfect point of reference.

Wait, you haven’t found a pair of winter shorts that speak to you?  Well you are in luck—here are a few of my favorite picks…

Where To Shop:
Chan Luu “Cable Knit Viscose Shorts” ($88), freepeople.com
Diane von Furstenberg “Weslia Beaded Tap Shorts” ($325), shopbop.com
ASOS “Short In Herringbone Print” ($54.90), asos.com
ASOS “Lace Short With Scallop Edge” ($53.91), asos.com
Pendleton The Portland Collection “Shorts in Black/Tan” ($156), revolveclothing.com

Do you wear winter shorts?  How do you like to style them?

Supreme Sandals

By this time of year your toes should be wiggling in the air with a fresh pedicure for all to see!  And while we took a look at some of my favorite wedges earlier this spring, it is now time to pay tribute the flat.  Because, flats can be fantastic too!   Seriously though.  I love a flat sandal.  Perfect for stepping up your errand look from flip-flops to something a bit more stylish.  And just like the wedges we discussed, there is a great pair of sandals for every budget.

Nine West "Thora" (Sale: $35.40), NineWest.com

I love the bright color and the rope styling of this sandal- ideal for adding a little personality to a casual look.

Seychelles "Anthology" (Sale: $54.50), PiperLime.com

The texture and metallic elements of this sandal create interest, while still being neutral enough to wear with anything.

Banana Republic "Lucia" ($98), BananaRepublic.com

There is something about suede that makes it both sophisticated and rustic.  These sandals walk that line perfectly.

Ash "Molly" ($180), PiperLime.com

It is the ethnic details that make these sandals a great accessory in a spring/ summer look.

Marc By Marc Jacobs "Graphic Capri" ($220), MarcJacobs.com

The brown leather of this sandal gives it a chic, classic metropolitan feel— just how you should look while conquering the urban jungle.

Shiny Things

Silver and Gold.  Sigh.  Pewter and Bronze.  Double Sigh.  These are a few of my favorite things.   Seriously though, long before I grab some bright color from my closet I reach for some trusty metallics.  I love some shine. Especially when worn as a neutral.  And in spring that is exactly the way I like to wear them.  They just make me feel good.

So sit back, relax, and enjoy these pieces:

Keen For Khaki

I grew up in Atlanta and in high school the guys had a sort of uniform that consisted of khaki pants, un-tucked polo shirts and shaggy hair.  It was (how shall I say this?) rebellious preppy.  It was such an unattractive style (can you even call it that???) that it turned me off from any form of khakis for the last decade (wow, did I just date myself?!).  But, the wounds have healed and now I see khaki with a fresh set of eyes.  Which is a good thing, because it is everywhere.  My favorite versions?  Unexpected shapes and/or paired with bright colors!
