Cozy Sweaters

This may amaze you, but Chicago is much colder than Los Angeles.  Shocking, I know.  And with my body just 2 weeks postnatal, cozy sweaters (preferably oversized) are just what I need.  After all, who doesn’t want to be curled up in a warm chunky knit, ideally with a cup of hot cocoa, in front of a fireplace?  Okay, so that may be a bit of idealistic event (what, with a hungry infant and no fireplace), but the sweater, the sweater is a true possibility!

A cozy sweater isn’t just for those of us with post-baby body.  Frankly, it is a piece that belongs in any wardrobe!  It is truly a winter staple.  Cozy sweaters work with leggings and jeans, but can be just as easily paired with a skirt.  Making the perfect pullover a versatile winter weather necessity.

Enough talk about how to wear it, here are some options for the actual sweater:

Pim + Larkin “Dolman Cashmere Sweater”
Hive & Honey “Horizontal Stitch Dolman”
Vince “Twist Seam Crew Sweater”
Rhyme & Echo “Squaw Pullover”
Free People “Songbird Pullover”
Townsen Santa Fe “Long Sleeve Sweater”

What do you think of these options?  And how do you wear your cozy sweaters?

Doutzen Kroes Visits The Beach

Today is Lukus birthday!  We are off doing birthday things here in Atlanta, but it was this celebration that prompted our little cross-country trip to begin with.

As you may have read here, here and here, we spent the first few days of our vacation on Amelia Island in Florida.  Yes.  It was chilly.  But there is something about a chilly beach, that makes it feel tranquil and private and special—as in something that not everyone gets to experience.

The trip reminded me of an editorial I saw a few months back in Muse Magazine featuring model Doutzen Kroes and photographed by Lachlan Bailey.

One photo specifically:

What do you think of the beach in winter?

Accessorizing For Winter

I feel like I am back on the holiday track.  No, I still haven’t completed all my tasks, but I got a little more of the decorating done and I have a plan for the rest of this week.

So instead of focusing on the stress of the past week, I am going to focus on the fashions of winter.  In particular the accessories that can only be worn when the mercury dips.

Tights, gloves, hats, scarves and everything in between—these are the winter accessories that I’ve been craving (even if it isn’t quite cold enough to wear them in LA).

Here are some of my picks:

Fantastic Faux Fur

It happened.  It finally got cold in LA- sort of.  Due to some crazy Santa Ana winds the temps dropped down to the high 40s (circa 8*C).  For Los Angeles this was insanely cold, maybe not so much for New York.  Needless to say I spent the weekend whining and am now suffering from a bit of a chest cold.  It happens.

You know what else happens?  Faux Fur happens.

Okay, that wasn’t my best segue.  But still faux fur is pretty amazing and if I owned some of it I may not be suffering from a cold.  Okay.  I probably still would be, but I would be suffering chicly.

Enough.  You know what’s coming next— my faux fur picks.  And don’t start with that “fur doesn’t work for me!” line!  Today’s furs come in a variety of styles and in my opinion the faux versions look better than the real thing.

Here they are:

Where To Shop:
Rachel Zoe “Betty Coat with Fur” ($550), shopbop.com
DKNY “Long Sleeve Parka with Faux Fur Collar & Trim” ($525), dkny.com
Free People “Vegan Mink Fur Coat” ($198), revolveclothing.com
ASOS “Hooded Fur Coat” ($163.62), asos.com
Club Monaco “Claris Faux Fur Jacket” ($349), shopbop.com

What do you think about faux fur?  How are you adjusting to the colder weather?

A Short Story (Part 2)

Back in April I announced my love for short shorts (A Short Story).  And I maintain that support even now in November.   Honestly, my love may have only grown deeper.

What makes them even better now that it is cold out?  No tan required.  After all, just like a winter skirt, winter shorts are best worn with a pair of tights.  In fact, if you are unsure of how to wear shorts during the cooler temps, skirts are the perfect point of reference.

Wait, you haven’t found a pair of winter shorts that speak to you?  Well you are in luck—here are a few of my favorite picks…

Where To Shop:
Chan Luu “Cable Knit Viscose Shorts” ($88), freepeople.com
Diane von Furstenberg “Weslia Beaded Tap Shorts” ($325), shopbop.com
ASOS “Short In Herringbone Print” ($54.90), asos.com
ASOS “Lace Short With Scallop Edge” ($53.91), asos.com
Pendleton The Portland Collection “Shorts in Black/Tan” ($156), revolveclothing.com
